This past weekend was the end of the year trip for my Girl Scout troop. We took the girls to Wonder Works in Sevierville, TN. We had a blast! I personally love science museums and Wonder Works definitely served up a huge helping of fun. After we went through most of the museum, we went to a dinner show that was hilarious and the food was delicious. After that, some girls and their parents went to the hotel to swim, our group went though the museum again. I think we had even more fun the second time through. I was proud of my girls that faced their fears, walked through the optical illusion tunnel, and rode the virtual roller coaster.Yesterday we drove back and made a stop at A Likely Yarn in Abingdon. It was my treat to myself for surviving the trip….. Ok, I was just using that as an excuse to buy more yarn! It was my first real yarn shop experience. I also go to meet fellow Etsian Tara from Bonde Chicken Boutique. She’s the first Etsy seller I’ve had the pleasure of meeting in person. She’s super sweet and I’ll definitely be stopping by on another Sunday in the future.

I wasn’t for sure if we were going to have time to stop at the yarn shop on our way home so I didn’t prepare myself very well. I didn’t have any patterns ready or even an idea of a project. So I bought a few different things hoping the yarn will tell me what it wants to be. Here’s a photo of the goodies that I bought.

My New Goodies from A Likely Yarn

I picked up a amazing hand painted sock yarn, a beautiful skein of recycled silk, a gorgeous yellow wool, a very pretty multi-color acrylic/wool blend, and a super soft creamy baby merino which is named Cassie…. Seriously, I couldn’t resist something that had my name… and it’s spelled right and everything. I also picked up a set of size US 35 needles. The largest needles that I had were 15 maybe 17 so I decided to add those to my stock of knitting needles. The needles were handmade by someone who is semi-local (NC) so that is awesome. As you know (or maybe not), supporting local businesses, especially local artists/crafters is super important to me. In fact, the first thing I bought for my scooter was a sticker that says “BUY ART support your local artists” so maybe other people will be inspired to do the same.

I can’t wait to go back with patterns and projects in mind. I searched through Ravelry last night and will probably spend my evening tonight doing the same.
