Storm’s a brewin’ July 25, 2009

Just an hour ago, I was outside taking photos of my plants in the beautiful evening sunshine. I made myself a bit of dinner and noticed that my neighbor’s antenna was moving like someone was standing there shaking it. I poked my head outside to find the most amazing storm clouds. I’m so glad that my camera could kind of pick up all the lights & darks. There’s a huge storm coming. Looks like I might be binding books by candlelight in a little bit.

Remember my post about the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Etsy Transaction?

Well, actions were taken and some victory was achieved. The good news, Etsy banned the seller and they will no longer be ruining anyone’s shopping experience. The bad news, PayPal was only able to recover $.59. The PayPal message did state that they would attempt to recover the rest of the money but I’ve already given up on ever seeing a penny more of it.

Hurray! I actually have finished projects! I managed to finish seven books yesterday. I also had an extremely productive evening in the studio. Annnnd, I picked up some new cover papers that I’m so excited about! I’ll post about those next Wednesday because I already have some things in progress.

Seven Finished Books

The Crafty Kitten studio has slowly become The Crafty Puppy studio. Raisin has begun taking up residence with her little bed during my studio time. She will pout at me until I bring her bed in for her to sleep on.

The Crafty Puppy?

Snuggies disrupted her nap time.

Oh, no! Kitties are eating foodz and I has none!

BTW, Today is the three year anniversary of my Etsy shop. Sorry it’s really empty right now but soon enough it will be stocked full of goodies.

WIP Wednesday… on Thursday July 2, 2009

Life got in the way of my blog post yesterday so this week’s WIP Wednesday is happening on Thursday. Life has been getting in my way all week. Sunday I was so exhausted that I didn’t get out or my pajamas or my recliner all day. I guess the alpaca excitement was too much for me, hehe. Several evenings this week I’ve attempted to get some things done in the studio but either I’m just not feeling it or my leg/foot is giving me so much trouble that I have to quit. But, any progress is progress. I have gotten small things done this week and they are all things that would still be left to do if I hadn’t tried at all.

The buttony cardi is coming along nicely but I’m so afraid that I’m going to run out of yarn. I’m going to stop at the end of this ball, knit the sleeves and then continue with what is left and pray that I don’t end up with some awkward length. I suppose I could rip out to just below the bust line and have a cropped sweater, but I probably wouldn’t wear it that way.

Here’s the stack of books that have been haunting me all week. I did mark and score the spines & covers this week but that’s about it. I’m planning on tackling them today & who knows, a couple of them may end up on my Friday FO’s post. *fingers crossed*

15 books in progress

This, is a skirt. It may not look like it but it is. I’m fighting with this project because I know that once I get several inches done it will go smooth and be an easy repeat pattern. It’s just that I’ve had to cast on twice… all 500 stitches… twice… gah. And I’ve knit the first two rows twice… it was horrible to rip out those 1500 stitches but it had a twist and stitches that looked weird. I kept throwing it in my bag because I was on the go while casting on and doing the first row. Not a good idea when there are that many stitches involved. Anyway, I’m now on row three and starting the set up row. I may end up putting this aside until after the festival so I can focus on getting books done.

Monday’s How Does Your Garden Grow June 22, 2009

I have a lot of tomatoes. The two plants that I planted in the ground are loaded down with them. The three in pots that were planted later aren’t doing as well but I think they’ll come around in time.

Lots of tomatoes

Here’s the start of the first pumpkin on the vine.

My pepper plants aren’t doing well at all. I think it’s a combination of bugs and the neighborhood cats. I have one plant that I think will make it. But… this past week a volunteer pumpkin started growing right in front of it. I don’t want to pull it up so I think I’ll just wait and see if they can happily live together.

Poor peppers & a volunteer pumpkin

This scary little fella came to visit me while I was sitting on my porch swing. It has a white dot on it’s back and it’s legs are white striped and he’s a hairy little fella too.

My usual breakfast is a handful of dry cereal or a slice of bread and a protein shake. Since today is my day off, I made the most awesome omelet with cheddar, mozzarella, and fresh green onions from the farmer’s market. I had it with multi-grain sour dough bread also from the farmer’s market.

I went for a beautiful sunny Sunday drive through the country with my hubby today.  We love to drive down roads that we’ve never been on just to see where they lead.  Sometimes it’s a dead end but most of the time it’s not.

WIP Wednesday May 27, 2009

This past weekend we had a huge sale at A Likely Yarn to prep for our move. A very special person bought me enough yarn for a project, which I promptly cast on. I’m making the Siren Shawl from Knit Simple Spring/Summer 2007. I’m using Fibranatura’s Sea Song which is 80% pima cotton and 20% Seacell (kelp). It’s an easy four row pattern with a nine stitch repeat. I’m already on the second ball.

Siren Shawl WIP

Last night while poking through my stash, I came upon several balls (mostly half used) of sugar’n cream cotton that I had used to make some commissioned projects in the past. I decided that I need some new crochet dishcloths and got started. By the time I went to bed, I had already gone through three of the small balls. These aren’t going to match perfectly but they will still be useful. I also have three skeins of Solei that I bought at the sale to use for dishcloths as well though I’ll probably knit those instead of crochet.

Dish Cloth WIP

I’ve also cast on for another pair of socks. I started these last week by knitting from both ends of the ball but I didn’t like that the stripes weren’t lining up. I frogged them and rewound it on a ball winder so that things would line up. I’m making them with Trekking XXL in Circus.

I’m still working on books. I’m starting to get to the panic stage because I have a huge festival coming up at the end of July that I’ll be at for five days. I don’t feel like I have enough stock for five days at the moment but I’m working hard to get some things going. I’m hoping to try some new things but I just keep thinking I only have TWO MONTHS to get everything together!! I’m also trying to find time and the right lighting to take photos to do a shop update with the books that I’ve already made.
