Oh Brother!

I received an email back from the Brother company.  They just gave me a generic, straight from the operating manual, ridiculous answer.

Gee, thanks for the help.

Anyway, as much as I hate returning things, this is getting sent back – Today.

  1. Too bad you’re not closer. I’d be happy to lend you one of mine for the weekend. I just bought an old Morse sewing machine from someone on our local Craig’s list for not much money at all. It’s all metal and it looks similar to one of the older Singer machines. I got it to sew canvas and leather. You may want to check the Craig’s list in your area for someone who is selling a machine inexpensively. Sometimes a non sewers will inherit one and will sell it rather than use it.

  2. I’ll definitely have to check out Craig’s list or maybe one of the local trading journals.

I’m just bummed because I wanted to get a head start on my Christmas goodies. I do have 6 more vacations days between now and then to use up.

  3. That is so frustrating! It might be a little more expensive, but the Bernina Activa is a GREAT machine. I have challenged it more than a few times and it hasnt failed me yet. Depending on how much you plan on sewing, it may be worth it in the long run. Your books are wonderful by the way! I especially love the map box/books.

  4. I don’t know if this will help at all but I got a sewing machine for Christmas last year and I had problems with my decorative stitches as well. The needles didn’t break but I got a lot of knots. Turns out you need a special backing when doing those fancy stitches and I didn’t know about that. You probably do but if you don’t it is worth a try. The lady at the shop I got my machine from said to use normal A4 paper until I can get some of the backing stuff… is is called facing or something??? Anyway, I’m only a beginner sewer and you probably know that already but I thought I’d mention it just in case.

I’ve gotten that type of response from complaint emails too, and they are sooo frustrating and a complete waste of time!

    Good luck!
