Check Out This Musician.

If you’ve seen the MacBook commercial where a very thin laptop fits inside an envelope, then you’ve heard part of Yael Naim’s song “New Soul”.  I’m in love with this CD.  My favorite song on it is called “Far Far” so here are the lyrics:

Far far, there’s this little girl
she was praying for something to happen to her
everyday she writes words and more words
just to speak out the thoughts that keep floating inside
and she’s strong when the dreams come cos’ they
take her, cover her, they are all over
the reality looks far now, but don’t go

How can you stay outside?
there’s a beautiful mess inside
how can you stay outside?
there’s a beautiful mess inside
oh oh oh oh

Far far, there’s this little girl
she was praying for something good to happen to her
from time to time there’re colors and shapes
dazeling her eyes, tickeling her hands
they invent her a new world with
oil skies and aquarel rivers
but don’t you run away already
please don’t go oh oh

How can you stay outside?
there’s a beautiful mess inside
how an you stay outside?
there’s a beautiful mess inside

Take a deep breath and dive
there’s a beautiful mess inside
how can you stay outside?
There’s a beautiful mess
beautiful mess inside

Oh beautiful, beautiful

Far far there’s this little girl
she was praying for something big to happen to her
every night she ears beautiful strange music
it’s everywhere there’s nowhere to hide
but if it fades she begs
“oh lord don’t take it from me, don’t take it yourselves”

I guess i’ll have to give it birth
to give it birth
i guess, i guess, i guess i have to give it birth
i guess i have to, have to give it birth
there’s a beautiful mess inside and it’s everywhere

So shake it yourself now deep inside
deeper than you ever dared
deeper than you ever dared
there’s a beautiful mess inside
beautiful mess inside
Go look her up!  YouTube, iTunes, whatever just go do it…..

First Machine Pieced Quilt Square

Tonight’s class was so much fun! Since I wasn’t tired things went much better. Here are photos of my first machine pieced quilt square. Yea! The pattern is called Ohio Star.

Close up… and it shows a bit of my mistake.

As for now, my sewing machine and I are getting along much better. I’m trying to name her, so far Helga has been working but I’m thinking of changing it to something else.

I stopped by my local fabric shop and picked up this fabulous fabric that I’ve been wanting for a few weeks now. I’m not sure what I want to do with it yet but I knew that I NEEDED it.

very adorable fabric

Best Lunch I’ve had in a long time….

I purchased the Biggest Loser Cookbook for my family. Though we haven’t technically began “eating just from the book” as my hubby puts it, I have been trying out some of the recipes to see how they taste. Let me say, as I read though this book, every single recipe looks delicious. Yesterday for lunch, I had a BLT. Turkey bacon, ranch dressing, romaine lettuce, and tomato slices on a whole grain flour tortilla rolled up burrito style. Delicious! This morning I had an English muffin, with cheddar cheese, veggie sausage, and an egg. It was so filling that I had to eat lunch later than normal. That is what I need in a breakfast! I hate hitting 11:30 and feeling like my stomach is going to eat its way through to my spine.

Today’s lunch is even better than yesterday’s… Oven roasted turkey, turkey bacon, romaine lettuce, and green onion & chive cream cheese rolled up in a whole grain flour tortilla. For my dessert, I had one small banana sliced up in a bowl with a dollop of vanilla yogurt and a dollop of peanut butter all topped with some Kashi Go-Lean Crunch. Seriously, this has to be the best lunch I have had in ages. The banana thing is supposed to be a breakfast dish but I didn’t see any reason I couldn’t have it for lunch.

All these years I have been lead to believe that eating healthy involved lots of canned tuna, alfalfa sprouts, carrots, boneless-skinless-tasteless chicken, and lots of bland blah-ness.

If the lunch & breakfast recipes are this delicious, I cannot wait until I can try some of the dinner ones!

I was a busy bee tonight.

I cut my blocks for tomorrow night’s class and I redid the heart square that I messed up. Here’s a few photos of my workspace and my finished square.

For some reason, my camera decided that there was enough light in the room and it didn’t need a flash…. silly camera.

Hurray! No gaps!

This photo is much closer to the true colors of the fabric.

Monday…

Monday is a difficult day. Thank god it’s almost over.

Nothing much else to report so I’ll leave you with an adorable photo of Raisin with her blankie. She can’t sleep at night unless she’s covered in either her blanket or her pillow (mostly her pillow).

Doing anything while tired is a NoNo!

Last night, in quilting class, we started our first bit of piecing. We are doing paper piecing or foundation piecing. I had a terribly exhausting day at work and was so brain dead by the time I arrived that even simple directions and tasks became incredibly complicated. Here is a pic of the first two small sample squares that I did. (not the actual firsts, I completely screwed up the first two attempts)

First Paper Piecing Squares

After getting the hang of it, I started on the Heart Square which will eventually be a square on my sampler quilt. I didn’t notice until I finished it that while I was completely pooped last night, I messed up royally on block #2 (yellow at the top) and there is a huge gap. I don’t know if this can be fixed. I’m going to redo the whole thing. I’m not happy with it. *sigh*

My machine and I fight all the time. I need to name it. Suggest to me names that could be someone really really stubborn.

Here’s a photo of Snuggies just because I don’t post her often…. (she’s very grumpy and doesn’t often stick around for photos)

Let the quilting begin!

Me and my mom went to JoAnn Fabric last night and I went hog wild on the fat quarters. I also found some fabric in my favorite (at the moment) color combination – brown and turquoise with a bit of bright red pop.

Ohhh fabric
My favorite color combo

I’m not sure what to do with this one… possibly book cloth…

Cute fabric

And of course, Zoe had to crash the whole photo shoot!

Zoe just won't stop!
Awesome fabric...

Finally, a crafty update.

I finished this over a week ago, but I’ve been so crazy busy that I haven’t had a chance to take any photos until today.

This is my first plyed yarn. Merino and Silk… yummy soft. Approximately 108 yards.

Zoe had to be a camera hog again, that’s his adorable little paw in the right corner. Here’s a photo of him just being cute.

Zoe, being cute....
